The lighterweight choice for daywear during the mid to late 1800's. The Cutaway Coat, also known as a Morning or Swallowtail Coat, vied with the Frock for popularity. With it's curved front panel, this elegant choice is far less bulky than the Frock and excellent for all day comfort and style. This style is often seen paired with pinstriped pants.

Our modern version of the popular coat is made of 100% wool. The upper torso is fully lined with 100% acetate, while the tails are self lined for a finished look. Imported. Dry clean only.

Available in sizes 34 - 56. Long sizes are available for those who need extra length in the sleeves and body.

Sizing Notes
Our coats are made with typical American sizing, meaning your chest measurement (in inches) is the size you should choose.
To measure your chest: Raise your arms slightly and measure just under your arms. Be sure to cross over the shoulder blades and the fullest part of the chest. If your belly measures larger than your chest, use your belly measurement for coat size.
Longs: If indicated in the selection list (e.g. 46L,) long sizes may also be available. Longs are approximately 2" longer in the back and sleeves.

Victorian Cutaway Coat
Just a bit tight a cross the shoulders and underarms for a true 44L coat. Fits more akin to a shirt. Also the front button is a bit high on the waist. Other than that a great looking coat.

It took three tries to get the right size, no fault of HE. It is a handsome coat and fits fine.

This is not a ding: I did have to take mine to the tailor to get it to fit like only a tailor-fitted coat will. I had the sleeve length taken in just a touch, and the sides taken in just a touch to give more of a taper (the factory cut is a bit more barrel-shaped). This is a really, really nice piece. I'm so glad this is what's on the OUTSIDE, what people are going to see FIRST before they assess the rest of my ensemble. I'm quite happy with it.

Great coat
It quickly became a Chewbacca costume after I opened the package, but it was to be expected with a dog in the house. Overall, I'm very satisfied, the fabric is great, and it is comfortable to wear. Also, for future buyers, I'd suggest you plan to get it tailored, unless you are straight as a log... or plan to give your beloved log a gift. It is supposed to be tight at the waist and not open up like a umbrella on the back. (Looking at the pictures, no one fixed it to their size, I'm sad.) My only complaint is that the sleeves doesn't have any buttons, but it isn't dramatic. Even if I ended up paying almost $200 for customs fee (I have no idea what happened over here.), it still saves money on a coat from a luxurious brand; it is really worth it. PS. The back goes down to behind the knees for me, and I am 6 feet tall. For the sleeves, unless your arms are abnormally long, it should fit properly. Hope it helps!

We ordered these for our wedding and they are perfect. So well made, comfortable and look absolutely fabulous. The beauty of Victorian fashion without looking like a pantomime. Absolutely perfect!

Elegant and stylish
I own a number of frock coats and morning coats; this one rapidly became my favourite. The cut is superb, and adds a certain air of style and an olde worlde charm that's very flattering to the wearer. It's an elegant looking coat in anyone's book, uncluttered and spare in its design (and yet still more than a little exotic in our rather mundane modern world of unflattering men's suits that all look the same), presenting a very trim silhouette, and let's be honest - who doesn't love a coat with tails? I was also lucky that the fit was perfect out of the box; and can I recommend trying it out with your best and brightest waistcoats? Whether worn open or with the button fastened, the contrast of the coat with a little something in silk or velvet in a cheery hue helps to show a little play alongside the cutaway coat's more sober work or formal lines. Any day I get to wear this coat is a very good day indeed.

Victorian Cutaway Coat
I was looking for a coat for the last several years to complete an outfit for use in my class. Happily, the Victorian Cutaway Coat fit the bill, including the wool it was fashioned from. This was intended as a dignified captain of industry from the early Victorian era. It will work perfectly. It also came in my size, which was hard to find elsewhere.
