Americans call it a derby, after the Earl of Derby who helped popularize it. But, Englishmen know it as a bowler as it was first introduced in the early-1850's in England and produced by the Bowler Brothers Company. It crossed the pond to America in the 1860's and remained popular well past the turn of the century.

As with everything I have gotten from Historical Emporium this hat was perfect. Great quality and beautiful design. The only thing I'd say is it seemed to run slightly small - I had to get the next size up for it to be comfortable.

This was purchased as a gift, and the recipient's expectations were surpassed. The felt is more stiff than expected, but it hasn't created any problems. It's survived a few rainstorms already, unscathed. The contrasting grosgrain on the crown and brim are beautiful.
